Next Obsession: Making a Game

That’s Right … I got it into my head wouldn’t it be awesome to make an alt-pokemon like adventure 2D RPGMMO type game? … and insanity soon followed.

As much as the insane amount of art it will take to create. The hardest part is that I’m not a programmer. So I followed tutorials, learnt a little bit, mostly got confused, managed to create a tiny bit of a battle system. Got completely lost and confused. Messed everything up and cried to my big brother for help … lol … so he’s made it very nice (And functioning again) so far, with just a days work (what took me weeks of agony!)

And here is the un-glorified test system … excuse the art. I just whipped stuff up to test the game mechanics … niceness will follow. Hope the link works … it’s pulled from Facebook. If it doesn’t I’ll upload to YouTube and try again.

So I recently started turning my sketches into nice art. I Can only show you a little bit because I want most of it to be a surprise. Don’t worry, my more complete art is the public stuff, lol

The picture above are the starter creatures. All pretty basic (but hopefully adorable, naaawwwww) So thought I’d add them in as their single file.

The art lines aren’t the best. I’m using Sketchable as my main software atm, it’s super user friendly software but also very limited … which is unfortante, would be nice to be able to customise DPI and pixel size setting, such as life … And it’s the best I got. So you can’t make those beautiful lines like in Photoshop … I have Affinity, but I don’t really like the feel. It’s good, but it doesn’t have any of those interesting brushes and natural drawing feel that I like … just recently downloaded Krita again and loving it. So probably mix up Krita and Sketchable … so it won’t be perfect, but they’re both very natural and intuitive programs to me.

I also just whipped up a tree sprite as an experiment:
tree sprites

I did the colour layer in Krita (so the one on the right) and imported to sketchable to make the ink lines … I quite like the look … Saw a similar style for a few seconds in some tutorial I grew bored of the other day and decided to give it a go. I’s a very nice look … might be a bit too … vertical for a RPG format … We’ll see.
I have done some other art while gone too (sorry about that. Moved house and was having troubles with the old PC so I usually didn’t turn it on … got a Surface Pro (probably a month or two ago?) and slowly saved for all the extras that should come with it (cause lets face it, it’s shit without them) and since then been happily sketching away on it (mostly for this game)

Should add the other stuff I’ve done in the mean time … argh … if I can be bothered.

Edit: Made a quick visual edit and chucked in some trees and rocks … Was playing around with box colliders to make the character walk in front or behind … I think I got it sorted nicely … probably can’t make it too crowded in there, lol … I also fixed up the rock.
